On March 23rd, EcoCuadrado was present in the Sustainability day “The challenge of big companies at environmental conservation and improvement”, in which leading companies such as Inditex, Seat and Bluemove took part.
Inditex defended the new concept of “Sustainable fashion”, from they want to effect the transition to the circular economy and sustainability for three reasons: necessity (natural growing), responsibility (values and ethics), and the opportunity (leading and innovation).
They have launched an innovative campaign locating containers in all ZARA shops and offices to collect used clothes, regardless they were from the brand. These clothes, and the scraps from the factories, are sent to social entities (Cáritas, Oxfam, Cruz Roja) where people at risk of social exclusion sort the products for second hand shops and recycling plants.
At the same time they have developed “Green to pack”, by which they decrease the level of emissions and re-use the boxes from the store to prepare new Internet purchases.
Due to these actions the use of energy and water is reduced and it contributes to job creation.
ACCIONA, another Spanish leading company, focuses its strategy on how the society affects to climate change, and focuses on environment by conservation of biodiversity and circular economy to reach a neutral fingerprint. They defend that the concept of circular economy is intricately connected with sustainability by waste management and source sorting. Their goals are measuring targets in order to obtain results with a global perspective, and by this way enhancing social awareness.
Finally, it should be noted that the sustainability evolution in the automotive sector. Seat raises a consideration: Is the electric vehicle the way for the sustainable mobility in the cities?
Seat point out that the cost is really elevated and there is not a prepared infrastructure. The sustainable department aims that the support should be made in hybrid vehicles both gas and fuel types, due to there is not availability of gas, the vehicle can use fuel. At the same time, they are able to add the gas system to vehicles.
The use of natural gas for the private transport reduces nitrogen oxides and particles emissions, following the European guidelines about the decarbonisation.
On second place, the common use of private vehicles might be considered as well. Bluemove is an example. Bluemove is a carsharing company with the goal of relieving the use of private vehicles in big cities. For that, they have a fleet of vehicles and a mobile app in which they can be booked.
From this day, it can be figured out that the sustainability plays a fundamental role in the future of the company management, and companies are increasingly aware about developing new strategies engaged with the environment, realizing that it is an investment that produces economic long-term benefits .
